Dental hygiene

Dental hygiene is an integral part of preventive dentistry.

A professional cleaning conducted by a dental hygienist helps prevent tooth decay, gum disease, or periodontitis.

The first appointment includes a dental hygiene diagnosis statement, tooth decay, gum disease, or periodontitis explanation, and most importantly tartar and stain removal.

Each dental hygiene treatment includes scaling using the AIRFLOW PROPHYLAXIS MASTER equipment. The patient is also instructed on the correct tooth brushing and flossing techniques.

The second appointment - RECALL is a follow-up appointment during which tartar and stains are removed and correct brushing and flossing techniques are checked. This appointment should be repeated at least twice a year.

Dental hygiene and orthodontic treatment:

The fixed braces treatment requires perfect dental hygiene.

If plaque is not removed regularly, it leads to decalcification of the enamel, which shows as white marks on the teeth and can quickly turn into caries. Prolonged exposure to plaque leads to gingivitis – swelling, redness, and bleeding of the gums.

The above conditions exacerbate orthodontic treatment which might be delayed or even terminated

Our orthodontic treatment includes a free appointment with a dental hygienist prior to the fitting of the braces. The dental hygienist will show you how to look after your teeth fitted with fixed braces.
